is now a year since the DS and the Margherita Veltroni failed to convince the secretary to do the PD, leaving plus the (safe and comfortable) chair of the mayor of Rome.
D'Alema, Rutelli and Fassino and the rest were driven by particular affection for Veltroni, Prodi's government but the situation seemed hopeless after their worst election result in administrative spring 2007 and considered to limit the prime minister and the preposterous coalition.
On the rest were divided (the economy, the electoral system Church ...); however, agreed that Veltroni was the best substitute, as it would bridge the communication gap
with Berlusconi.
Veltroni was so chosen, hoping to "lose well" the election (win? Mmmm) thanks to his skills in communication, comparable to that of Berlusconi.
The mayor knew that the company was desperate and had it in for Prodi to his claim to run again in 2006 he would have done better, or at least thought so.
But in the end changed his mind and accepted the job when it happened that the request to replace Prodi came from all currents: so Bersani withdrew his candidacy and was packed to the regulation of the primaries to allow everyone to sit on the boat Veltroni even though they thought otherwise.
What I think Veltroni was the first mistake: to think that the unity of the new party should require the presence of the usual suspects, the maximum supported by some "young".
One year later the same prescelsero that the current format in which they stand apart.
We (almost) convinced that the veltroni represent an added value (like Berlusconi), not wanting to see that Berlusconi is a piece of Italian society.
I hope the PD is not intended to disappear: it is the only project of modernizing reformist sense for a country like Italy.
But today I see their leaders to persevere in error. They are divided between those who want to ally themselves with the system of proportional representation for the UDC and / or the radical left, and those who want the majority to be bound by the reforms with the PDL.
Meanwhile the new direction they vote together, being careful to compare the different options and be counted, thus trampling on the basic idea of \u200b\u200bthe new party (or its being founded on the sovereignty of citizens).
Filed dialogue with the PDL and the blurred differences to the right on key issues (immigration, security and social policies) and trampled its own rules innovative: the PD goes from defeat to defeat.
And I fear that history will not change for some time, until you get rid of a ruling class clearly inadequate.
